'OLD TIN' site as seen from the Ballarat freeway.
In 1980, David and Leslie Waight bought a fibreglass 29 Roadster project (above left) which had the chassis modified. Shortly afterwards a 29 Bakers Van (right) was also purchased however it was a good stock vehicle and too good to strip. After chasing more A Model parts, we finally had enough to put together a steel Roadster Pickup.
With the help of fellow Ballarat Road Rodders the Pickup was finished by Easter 1983 and driven to the 6th ASRF Nationals at Mildura, Vic. In flat black with blue chassis parts and no roof it was a memorable adventure. The Pickup was painted yellow in 1985 (above right).
More parts were found and bought and soon the trading began. Youngest brother, Bob was now starting his first A project, and "Waight Bros A Model Parts" was becoming common at most Victorian Swap Meets.
So began the OLD TIN story and after some overseas buying trips to test the water, David finally started trading full time in 1995. The business was registered and personalised plates secured and as they say "the rest is history".
Since then over 50 A Model bodies have been traded with nine complete drivers also inished. Fixed price Hot Rods, A Model Speed Equipment and the Australian Land Speed Record for Vintage Four powered car have been added to the ever expanding achievements and offerings from OLD TIN.
